A Season of Reflection and Sacrifice
For Christians, especially
Catholics, summer is not just a time to celebrate graduation and go on
vacation; it is also time for Lent. Lent, also known as the Lenten season or
Great Lent, is a period of reflection on Jesus' 40-day fasting and temptation
in the wilderness. It is a period of preparation for Easter that includes
prayer, penance, sacrifice, and good works. Lent is derived from the
Anglo-Saxon words lencten, which means "Spring," and lenctentid,
which literally means "Springtide" as well as "March," the
month in which the majority of Lent takes place.
The spirit of reflection is one of
the most important aspects of Lent. Lent is a time when Christians of all
denominations ask themselves important questions. Lent provides Christians with
an opportunity to reflect on their previous year's actions and ask themselves
which of their actions were in line with Christ's and which were not.
Christians are hoped to gain some insights into what they need to do to better
follow Christ through reflection. Reflection allows one to consider his or her
previous actions and what they could have done differently to improve things.
It gives you the opportunity to improve yourself by analysing your previous
decisions.
The spirit of sacrifice is another
aspect of Lent. It doesn't have to be anything big or dramatic like those you
see on TV crucifying themselves; it could be something as simple as not playing
video games on Sundays. Christians believe that by giving up a small part of
their lives, they can repay and share in the sacrifice made by Jesus during his
passion.
Despite the fact that Lent is a time of sacrifice, it is not
the true meaning of the season. The true meaning of Lent, in fact, is love,
because it is love that is supposed to motivate us to give alms and make
sacrifices. After all, it was love that compelled Jesus to obey the Father to
the point of death on a cross.
In the midst of all of our trials
and tribulations, we must allow ourselves to be renewed by God and others, as
well as to renew others. We must observe the Lenten season in a simple yet
meaningful manner, rather than in a lavish manner. We must be able to
demonstrate humility and genuine forgiveness. The Lenten Season is not only a
time to reflect on Christ's sufferings, such as being nailed to the Cross, but
it is also a time for renewal.
