Government's Incompetence

President Rodrigo Duterte’s response to the pandemic has been full of incompetency. We would have gone through this pandemic like New Zealand who has stopped local transmission of the Corona virus because of the preparedness of their leader.

If only President Rodrigo Duterte had banned flights earlier, we wouldn’t have this much cases right now. The implementation of the Enhance Community Quarantine (ECQ) came on heels of serious negligence – namely, the authorities failing to keep up with the measures of neighboring countries. The president had underestimated the virus right from the beginning, he said that it was not something to be feared. Now, we have 245 thousand patients of corona virus. What’s worse is that instead of easing the overall burden of the virus unleashed on the country, it seems the last resort lockdown itself added to a plethora of problems without adequately addressing the primary crisis at hand, which is fighting against covid 19 and ensuring the public safety. With the very high amount of debt the Philippines have, who knows where funds have gone, surely it wasn’t used for the covid 19. President Duterte was always late on acting against the virus, that’s why we are in such a desperate state.

If only the president had acted as soon as the virus was declared as a pandemic and did not make jokes about the virus, we would have not been in such a horrid state. The country’s economy is collapsing, we are full of debts and very high on corona virus patients. If only we had a leader like Jacinda Arden, the Prime Minister of New Zealand, we would not have problems like this. It is all because of the incompetency of our president and his minions.
